Sunbrella Acrylic Canvas & Fabrics - Marine Fabric
Sunbrella is the most recognised and trusted indoor and outdoor name in performance fabrics for indoor and outdoor upholstery furniture, awnings and marine applications. Sunbrella began in 1961 USA, creating an awning canvas that had a longer life span than most cotton canvas that was being used. Around 15 years later they moved on to creating marine fabrics and boating fabric and in the early 80s ventured into casual furniture fabrics. It was only recently (2002) were Sunbrella Soft Upholstery fabrics where created.
Sunbrella canvas is made from 100% solution-dyed acrylic yarns making it the perfect canvas for outdoor use. Acrylic is known for its water-resistant properties. The unique yarn technology ensures that fabric cannot be harmed by the Australian climate. Sunbrella fabrics offer the rich look and feel of cotton but do not fade or degrade. UV and Fade Resistance
Most performance fabrics have some level of UV resistance. Many performance fabrics are normal fabrics that have had a protective finish applied to the surface. It's not to say this level of protection is bad, it's just not as strong. These fabrics are only fade resistant for up to 500 hours of UV sunlight. Sunbrella marine fabrics however are saturated to the core with highly UV stable pigments during manufacturing, making them resistant to fading and the degrading effects of sunlight.
Water-Resistant
Sunbrella canvas is designed to be breathable. Sunbrella canvas is water repellent but not completely waterproof. If you happen to leave your cushions uncovered during a rainstorm, the rain will bead up and roll off. Sunbrella Plus Marine Canvas combines the regular Sunbrella marine acrylic yarn with additional durable polyurethane undercoating for superior water resistance.
